Wondering what’s open and closed throughout Metro Vancouver this Remembrance Day? As an important time to honour the resilience and strength of Canadian veterans, you may be spending it at a gathering or an event. Similarly, many businesses and services will be closed to observe the day, although some will remain open.

Transit

Since Remembrance Day is considered a holiday, TransLink buses– as well as the SkyTrain and SeaBus– will be using holiday schedules and fares. Only the West Coast Express will not be in operation

Military personnel and veterans will be able to access transit for free on Tuesday. Police and fire departments, as well as the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, BC Ambulance Paramedics, and Coast Guard members will also have free transit access on Remembrance Day.

Government Offices and Services

Most government offices are closed on Remembrance Day– this includes City Halls, Service Canada, passport offices, and ICBC. Although, you are able to report claims online or by phone with ICBC.

The majority of BC Liquor Stores will be open, with reduced hours from noon to 6:00pm. This may depend on location, though; and private liquor stores may have differing hours and openings/closings.

Shopping

You can expect most malls to be open on Remembrance Day, although they will have delayed openings to observe the 11:00am moment of silence. They will open at 11:00am or shortly thereafter. Although, there are a few exceptions:

  • Tsawwassen Mills (10:00am to 7:00pm)
  • Lansdowne Centre (10:00am to 7:00pm)
  • International Village (10:00am to 10:00pm)
  • McArthurGlen Designer Outlet (10:00am to 9:00pm)
  • Central City (10:00am to 7:00pm)

Certain grocery stores are also open on Remembrance Day. This includes Costco, Walmart, IGA, Superstore, Whole Foods, City Market, Save-On-Foods, and Safeway.

Attractions

Many attractions will remain open on Remembrance Day. Places like Science World, the Vancouver Aquarium, and the Museum of Vancouver will have their doors open. You can also drop by the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre, the Capilano Suspension Bridge, and VanDusen Botanical Gardens.

Additionally, Cineplex and Landmark movie theatres will still be running films.
