These Illustrated Postcards Let You Take a Piece of Vancouver’s History Home With You

If you love Vancouver, local art, or just collecting cool stuff, there’s a new postcard series you’ll want to check out.

Delta Hotels Vancouver Downtown Suites just dropped a stunning collection of illustrated postcards that highlight some of the most iconic moments in the city’s history  and they’re all designed by local artist Katya Roxas.

Whether you’re staying at the hotel or just passing through, you can swing by the lobby and grab one (or a few) of these beautifully designed cards. They make for a great keepsake, especially if you’re into Vancouver’s past or want to send something unique to someone who’s not from here.

A Mini History Lesson, But Make It Art

Each postcard feels like a love letter to the city. They’re full of colour, nostalgia, and local pride, and every one tells a different story, whether it’s about Vancouver’s early roots, its sports culture, or big moments that put the city on the global map.

Some highlights include:

  • Stanley Park, long before it became a tourist spot:  Learn about the Coast Salish villages like X̱wáyx̱way and Pápiyeḵ that once thrived here.
  • Expo 86 & the McBarge: Remember that floating restaurant barge? It was real, and it was futuristic.
  • 2010 Winter Olympics: The whole city came alive. From packed streets to Gretzky lighting the cauldron, it was a defining moment.
  • The Vancouver Grizzlies era: A shoutout to Big Country, Shareef, and the short-but-sweet NBA chapter.
  • The Gastown gold legend: A nod to the neighbourhood’s past, with a twist (it ties into a mystery game experience at the hotel).
  • Other cards feature everything from Yaletown’s sawmill and warehouse days to the Guinness-funded Lions Gate Bridge and even the heartbreak of the 2011 Stanley Cup Final. It’s basically a crash course in Vancouver history, but way more fun and way more Instagrammable.

More about Katya

All of the artwork was created by Katya Roxas, a Filipina multimedia designer, illustrator, and post-secondary communicator whose work has been featured on CBC Life, The Walrus, Chatelaine, and more. She’s known for her warm, expressive style that blends bold lines, emotional storytelling, and cultural connection, all of which shine through in this postcard collection.

You can follow her on Instagram here to see more of her work.

Where to Find Them

The postcards are available now in the lobby at Delta Hotels Vancouver Downtown Suites. You don’t need to be a guest,  just walk in, check them out, and grab a few while supplies last. It’s a small but meaningful way to connect with the city, support local art, and maybe even learn something new about Vancouver along the way. And while you’re there, hop into Stock + Supply, one of this City’s hidden gems for food and cocktails.
