While another ski resort was given the green light in BC’s Jumbo Valley, residents of Hope are excited for a massive development in their neighbourhood.
Barrick Gold Corp has already gotten approval from the Agricultural Land Commission and has their sights set on developing a massive $600 million resort in Hope BC.
Spread over 450 acres, the resort promises year-round activities to visitors and many exciting features. The resort would include a ten ski-hill run, in addition to a number of resort villages.
“An artist’s rendering shows one peak as high as 1,563 metres without indicating vertical drop or top elevation. Blackcomb’s highest vertical is 1,609 m and its top elevation is 2,284 m,” reports The Vancouver Sun.
Khalater Lake is also included in the resort’s proposal, and it would include numerous activities. In the summer it would be using for canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, boating, and more.
Features Of Proposed Ski Resort Hope BC
Another exciting feature of the proposal is a gondola that would allow Vancouverites to reach the park in a two hour drive. The gondola would load from a location off of the TransCanada highway in a parking lot. This means that visitors wouldn’t have to face heavy winter conditions, and would be a favourable attribute of the resort.
The developers also plan to have a restaurant that would grow its own vegetables, which would help the resort pass the environmental review.
The resort would also be a massive boon to the local economy, as it would provide hundreds of jobs in the area. Dennis Adamson, who is the electoral director of Electoral Area B of the Fraser Valley Regional District, said the project could have a positive impact on the struggling local economy.
“He said the area, which has relied on mining and logging in the past, is desperate for an economic kickstart, especially after the loss of 450 union jobs at the mill in Boston Bar a decade ago,” reports the Vancouver Sun.
The resort would be called The Giant Nickel All Season Resort.
Do you think that the ski resort will be a good thing for Hope? Is there anything that you think would make this resort even better than the plans indicate?
