YVR Debuts Self-Serve Kiosk for Passport Check In

The most annoying part of traveling is spending long minutes at the check-in lines before flights, fortunately, technology has come to our rescue once again to save time and create efficiency!

Beginning in June, YVR Passengers traveling to the US from Vancouver will now be able to can scan their own passports in a new effort to get passengers to clear customs more quickly.

Under the new system — called Automated Passport Control, which will be available for those with U.S. passports first, — flyers walk up to a self-serve kiosk, scan their U.S. passports, and answer customs declarations questions right on the screen. The process eliminates the need to fill out a declaration card, but passengers still need to speak to a U.S. customs officer for final clearance.

The program is the first-of-its-kind under a partnership between U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Vancouver Airport Authority. Those with Canadian passports can expect to use the self-serve option early June.
