White Rock Woman Allegedly Captured by ISIS

A Canadian-born woman has allegedly been captured in Syria.

Gill Rosenberg, who is a 31-year old from White Rock B.C. and attended BCIT is a former member of the Israeli Defense Force. According to several media outlets, she was said to have joined a Kurdish militia fighting Islamic State in early November. On November 31st, she was allegedly kidnapped by Islamic State Militants.

Syrian news websites are reporting that Islamic State fighters kidnapped several women following a series of suicide attacks in Kobani.

In an e-mail statement, the spokesman for Foreign Affairs in Ottawa stated the government is aware of the reports of a Canadian citizen being kidnapped in Syria and is ““pursuing all appropriate channels to seek further information.”

The statement goes on to say “the Government of Canada will not comment or release any information which may compromise ongoing efforts and risks endangering the safety of Canadian citizens abroad.”
