The City of White Rock is looking to launch a pilot medical marijuana dispensary project and develop governance framework for future dispensaries in town.

The idea stems from a local business owners presentation, who pitched the idea and highlighted it would be in the city’s best interest to do so as it gives them time to prepare for future openings. As an example, Randy Caine, who operates Hempyz, points out that Vancouver is struggling to regulate dispensaries because they were simply too late.
“Vancouver, I believe, waited too long and now they’re really trying to play catch up with a hundred dispensaries in town that run by all sorts of their own made-up mechanisms of governance,” Caine told On the Coast.
White Rock’s city council agree, for now, and have voted to direct staff and resources to look into the idea of a pilot dispensary project.
If successful, it’s safe to assume other cities across metro Vancouver will be quick to follow suit.
