Get immersed in Vancouver’s literature culture hands on with successful local writers and get a taste of their latest work.
The Vancouver Writers Fest has teamed up with the Vancouver Public Library providing a free, twice-monthly event called InCite, where notable authors share readings of their work and discuss inspiration with the audience. The events take place on Wednesdays nights at 7:30pm in the Alice MacKay Room of the VPL (350 W Georgia Street).
These thought-provoking discussions cover a wide range of topics and are a great evening event for anyone who is interested in art. The event kicked off with it’s first session on Wednesday January 14 and featured poetry.
The legendary Patrick Lane, Governor General’s Award-winner Arleen Pare, and debut talent Kayla Czaga shared poems from their upcoming books that ranged in topic from love, to loss, to nature in an inspiring and intimate session. Listening to poets read their work provides a unique context and powerful delivery for the emotionally driven content, which can help us make sense of the way the world works.
The next event is January 28 and features Journalist and Scotiabank Giller Prize-winner Linden MacIntyre, is joined by Vancouver Book Award winner Michael Christie to read and talk about their new novels.
InCite event are definitely something worth checking out for anyone in the 604 who wants a mind-altering and metaphoric experience, or just an evening filled with local art.
