The Vancouver Canucks have signed goaltender Cory Schneider to a 3 year. $12 million contract! During round one in this year’s playoff’s Schneider had a 1-2 record and only let in four goals of the 101 shots, giving him a .96 save percent in the three games he started!
In the regular season, Schneider had a record of 20-8-1 with a /937 save percentage and 1.96 goals against average with three shutouts in the regular season.
Basically, by signing Schneider to a contract, this means the Canucks are going to do whatever necessary to ship out Roberto Luongo. Luongo has been one of the better goaltenders over the last half decade, but Schneider has shown that he can be one of the elite goaltenders in the league.
Now, the question is who will take over Luongo’s $6.7 million contract until the 2018-19 season? Rumour has it that Luongo will not go to the Toronto Maple Leafs or the Chicago Blackhawks, but most likely will head down south to Florida to play for the Panthers. It all just depends on whether the Panthers think Luongo can bring them deep into the playoffs and are willing to pay that $6.7 million dollar contract.
Ironically, the Panthers are where the Canucks originally acquired Luongo from and now looking to send him back.
What do you think of the new contract with Cory Schneider?
