True Confections Kitsilano; Apple Pie

Goodbye summer, hello fall! The first day of fall has graced us with its presence this past week, which can only mean one thing – it’s time for some good old comfort food. Fall is my favorite season for food – soups, stews, and pies are all so suitable for the cozy weather. Thinking of all the delicious tastes and flavors fall food has to offer has got me craving one of my own favorite comfort foods – apple pie. I decided to try out “True Confections” located in the heart of Kits on Broadway and Alma in seek of an apple pie that tastes as good as my Mommas.

True Confections is a dessert joint specializing in all things pie and cakes. Banana cream pie (also a must-try), Boston cream pie, Oreo cheesecake and milk chocolate hazelnut are just a few of their specialties. Their apple pie was divine but unfortunately still didn’t beat my moms. (I probably wouldn’t say if it did anyway) The pastry was buttery, flaky and light but dense enough to still leave you satisfied. The filling consisted of thick, tender apple slices with hints of cinnamon and sugar that paired perfectly with the tartness of the apples. My favorite part was the sugar dusting on the top of the pastry, which gave it a nice textural crunch. The pie would’ve been a bit better if it were warmed up a little more as they only put it in the microwave for a couple minutes before serving. That being said, I think pie tasting was a fantastic way to kick-off the fall season!

True Confections is definitely a place to check out for those late-night cravings of something sweet. It is located at 3701 West Broadway.

Hours are Mon-Thu, Sun 1 pm – 12 am
Fri-Sat 1 pm – 1 am.

The apple pie is available for $6.95 + tax.
