As the forecast called, a Pacific storm made its way to the South Coast overnight, bringing more snow to the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Friday, with total amounts of 10 to 20 cm expected in the region.

As the storm continues to develop off the B.C. coast, more precipitation is expected today through Saturday over the South Coast reads the alert. While the snow is expected to become mixed with rain or change to rain this afternoon near sea level, for communities at higher elevations or inland, precipitation will remain in the form of snow through Saturday morning.

5 to 10cm of snowfall accumulation is expected over low lying coastal regions by Saturday morning with up to 25 cm over higher terrain.

Strong easterly winds combined with the snow will cause reduced visibilities in blowing snow, especially in the Fraser Valley today.

The rapid collection of snow is expected to make travel difficult in some locations. It is advised to take frequent breaks and avoid strain when clearing snow.

The weather caught a lot of commuters off guard on Monday morning, leading to chaos on the road.
