Richmond RCMP have issued a warning following reports of individuals going door-to-door posing as security firm employees.

The Richmond RCMP are “investigating a suspicious occurrence in the Hamilton area after multiple residents received knocks at their door from people allegedly posing as representatives from ADT. This issue came to light after posts on a closed social media forum were brought to the attention of the Richmond RCMP” reads a statement.

According to various posts, “these individuals were allegedly asking homeowners about their security systems and in some cases attempted to gain access inside the residence. According to the posts, these individuals verbally identified themselves as employees from ADT but did not present any form of identification or credentials”.

Richmond RCMP are reminding residents to be wary and always alert for suspicious activity.

“People need to be wary. If someone supposedly representing a company shows up unexpectedly at your house, soliciting personal information, do not tell them anything and definitely do not allow them inside,” says Corporal Adriana Peralta.

ADT has told police that they have “certain protocols in place” which include:

  • Every employee has an ADT-issued security card and Provincial licence and will have it visibly displayed
  • Door-to-door salesmen never ask to go inside the home, as their job is to gauge interest and schedule appointments for later dates

Richmond RCMP recommend reporting any suspicious persons or activities to police so that these incidences can be properly investigated.

Anyone with information regarding this matter is asked to contact Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 or by email at [email protected]. Should you wish to remain anonymous, please contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
