The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has just issued a recall regarding a popular brand of frozen food. According to the agency, the foods contain a microbial contamination that can cause serious illness.

Pillsbury Pizza Pops Recall
The recall concerns Pillsbury brand Pizza Pops. The affected Pizza Pop products are reportedly being recalled from the marketplace due to potential E. coli O26 contamination. It is also classified as a Class I recall, meaning that “there is a high risk that consuming the food may lead to serious health problems or death.”
While food contaminated with E. coli O26 might not look or smell spoiled, it can still make you quite sick. Some symptoms include:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Mild to severe abdominal cramps
- Water to bloody diarrhea
More severe cases of illness can result in seizures or strokes in some people, as well as the need for blood transfusions and kidney dialysis, and permanent kidney damage. People may also die in very serious cases of E. coli O26-related illnesses.
According to the CFIA, 20 people have become sick and four were hospitalized due to the E. coli-affected products. The people who became ill range from ages 1 to 87, and live in B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, and New Brunswick.
The CFIA advises those who think they have become sick due to consuming a recalled product to contact their healthcare provider. Those who own the recalled product should not consume, serve, use, sell or distribute the product, which should instead be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.
