The City of Vancouver and Vancouver Canucks have officially installed the brand new Pat Quinn Way street sign outside Rogers Arena in a day dedicated to the local legend.
Before the Vancouver Canucks game last night, the organization and City of Vancouver held a street renaming ceremony outside Rogers Arena and revealed the new street sign.
The idea initially came about after radio host Tom Mayenknecht submitted a proposal to the City of Vancouver to rename a one-block stretch of Abbott street after Pat Quinn. Tom’s vision was to see the stretch of Abbott Street, which runs between Pacific Boulevard to the south and Expo Boulevard to the north changed to “Pat Quinn Way”.
As of 6:00pm on March 17, 2015, that vision became a reality as Vancouver installed the Pat Quinn Way street sign.
The celebrations didn’t end there, the Canucks also had an elegant St. Patrick’s themed tribute for Pat Quinn before their game against the Philadelphia Flyers. Special guests included former Canucks players Pavel Bure, Stan Smyl, Marcus Naslund, and Kirk McLean. Quinn’s family was also in attendance. The Canucks went on to win the game 4-1.
Pat Quinn passed away last November due to illness, at the age of 71.
