It may be a couple of years before construction begins; however, the updates to New Westminster’s Canada Games Pool look enticing.
What’s more, the recommended features would make the new facility 65% larger than the existing one. At its core, the facility will have a modern, 50m, eight-lane pool tank with a moveable floor and two moveable bulkheads. It will also accommodate 1m and 3m springboards.
The new building will be an impressive 114,295-square-feet, and include aquatics, fitness and community spaces. Furthermore, estimates state that it will cost a staggering $100 million to finance.
With that in mind, studies still need to be conducted to determine exact budgeting. From there, the city hopes to begin construction in 2020.

Three options were originally proposed for the centre; however, the city has decided on concept option #3. This conclusion was determined based on based on site constraints, budget, and programming requirements.
Further, this option also enhances east-west connections through the site. By offering pedestrians a chance to travel through the building on their way through the site, they connect the building to the local community.
