New Innovative Park Coming To Smithe And Richards

The Vancouver Park Board has approved a brand new 0.8-acre park for the downtown Vancouver area.

The park will be located at the intersection of Smithe and Richards streets.

It will help to improve livability in the city and work towards Vancouver’s goal of becoming the greenest city by increasing access to nature.

“The park at Smithe and Richards will open in two years and will be the first new downtown park since Emery Barnes Park opened 13 years ago,” said Vancouver Park Board Chair Sarah Kirby-Yung. “It features a unique five-metre high elevated walkway offering bird’s-eye views of the entire park and large overhead ‘sky-frames’ or arches that can support specialty overhead lighting and ephemeral art installations.”

It’s estimated to cost around $6 million and will be taking over what is now a parking lot.

The park will be the perfect meeting spot, with over 10,000 residents and 17,000 people working in the area.
