Similarily recognizing Vancouver in the backdrop is becoming more of a norm too from long-running series like CW’s Supernatural to big box office hits like Marvel Studios’ Deadpool. So what’s filming around the City this month?
Death Note
An Americanized version of the popular Japanese magna/anime Death Note is being adapted right here in Vancouver. The story is about a student who possesses the ability kill thanks to a supernatural notebook. Variety reports the budget for the Netflix production somewhere in the $40-50 million range for the scheduled summer production from June 30 to Aug 30, 2016.
Boundaries
Canadian film and theatre legend Christopher Plummer joins Vera Farmiga from the Vancouver-filmed cult hit series Bate’s Motel in Boundaries. The road trip flick centres around a single mother played by Farmiga, her father played by Plummer and issue-filled son played by Lewis MacDougall. Part of the dramatic tale films in Vancouver this summer.
Incursion
It’s not just big budget Hollywood flicks making their rounds in Vancouver this summer as indie films also have a home-base in town. An incursion takes place around town this June the political thriller Drone aka Incursion films starring Sean Bean.
Juggernaut
Another indie-feature using Vancouver for production is Juggernaut which just wrapped up filming. It’s about an outlaw who is dead set on proving his mother’s death wasn’t just a suicide.
Okja
More original programming is on the way for Netflix as they add Okja to their feature film library. While filming began in South Korea it will wrap up in Vancouver during July. It stars big names like Jake Gyllenhaal, Tilda Swinton and Paul Dano. The Korean-American production is strays to the sci-fi genre promises a horror-filled story. Brad Pitt is even a producer.
