Surrey Mayor Linda Hepner announced that she will not run in the upcoming election.
She was elected for her first term in 2014, replacing former Mayor Dianne Watts. Previously, Hepner served as city councillor since 2005.
Now, the party is unsure of who will serve as the mayoral candidate in the next running.
And, Hepner isn’t the only mayor that won’t be seeking re-election.
In fact, eight more Metro Vancouver mayors have stated they won’t be running for another term.

A Statement From Linda Hepner
“During my time with Surrey, the City has evolved from a modest suburb into the region’s second metropolitan centre and a globally recognized leading edge city,” she said in the statement.
“I am very proud to have contributed to this transformation, but there will always be more to do, more to achieve and, therefore, there is never an ideal time to leave.
She closed her statement with a humble thanks.
“It has been an honour and privilege to serve you and the City of Surrey.”
