A woman who reportedly went mad with grief after the death of her dog has been charged with assault.
Langley RCMP were called in to the Langley Animal Clinic in the 5700-block 203rd Street on May 6 after the distressed 25-year-old woman begun causing a ruckus at the vet, using a crowbar to smash the clinic’s door.
“She was acting very erratic … Her behaviour was not normal,” said police spokeswoman Cpl. Holly Marks.
When police arrived, the woman allegedly threw a cigarette lighter at an officer, then, carrying a large screwdriver, a multi-tool and pepper spray, she climbed atop the hood of the police car and began yelling at the cops.
After two officers approached her, the woman jumped off the car and tried to run. She was arrested after a short chase.
As police tried to handcuff her, she kicked and thrashed on the ground and also tried to harm herself by smashing her head and grinding her face onto the pavement, said police.
She also bit one of the officers in the hand.
The woman, who has no fixed address, was taken to hospital for her injuries, then released into police custody.
Drugs may have been a factor in her actions.
She is charged with one count of assaulting a police officer from this incident, and charges of assault and assaulting a police officer from a separate incident on Jan. 13.
That incident is not believed to be related to her dog.
