If you’ve got an idea for what the new Kitsilano Pool area needs, then the City of Vancouver wants your opinion.
After years of wear and tear, this beloved and iconic pool is finally at the end of its life. As new avenues are explored, the City is looking for public input to help imagine what this area needs in its next stage.
DAMAGES AND REPAIRS
Kitsilano Pool has had some bad luck in the past couple of years. In 2022, a king tide caused the pool’s piping system to be damaged. Due to this, it was no longer able to circulate and filter the water correctly. Add onto that the cracks and breaking seams in the main tank and you’ve got a pool that desperately needs some repairs.

Although the pool reopened in June 2023, it was closed the next majority of 2024. Nearly $4 million was dedicated to Kitsilano Pool’s repairs, but unfortunately it was still leaking water. A replacement was not on the table at that time, practically years from being realized. It opened briefly from August to September in 2024, and was then promptly closed for the season.
In spite of Kitsilano Pool’s opening for 2025’s season, the City is fully aware that the facility is on its last legs. These repairs are little more than the bandage, and the fifty-year pool is certainly showing its age. It’s now time for a full replacement.
A NEW HORIZON
The City of Vancouver announced on Tuesday that they and the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation are “seeking public input to help plan a future for Kitsilano Pool.”

A feasibility study is being conducted in order to determine what the new pool could contain. Additionally, they are looking to “address climate resilience and storm preparedness”, as well as honour Kitsilano Pool’s history and cultural significance. Accessibility and supporting community wellness is also on the checklist.
If you’ve got some ideas, then the City of Vancouver is asking you to either take the online survey or attend in-person events at Kitsilano Beach to provide your input.
The online survey is available from June 24 to July 14, 2025.
The in-person events can be attended on the following dates:
- Saturday, June 28: 2:00pm – 5:00pm
- Friday, July 4: 4:00pm – 7:00pm
- Sunday, July 6: 12:00pm – 3:00pm
