Canucks center Henrik Sedin, a member of the NHL’s Vancouver Canucks became the clubs all-time leading scorer in franchise history with 757 points against the Dallas Stars on February 21, 2013.
Compared to where he started, drafted 3rd overall by Brian Burke in the 1993 NHL draft, it is amazing to see the progress Henrik has made with the Vancouver Canucks. Coming into the NHL Henrik was known as a passer, and never much of a scorer, with the scoring duties falling onto his twin brother Daniel Sedin. In Henrik’s 2nd NHL game, he recorded his first ever NHL point by ironically assisting Daniel’s 1st NHL goal in a 5-4 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning. During his first year in the league Henrik played on the 3rd line with his twin brother Daniel, and finished the season tallying 29 points.
Fast forward a couple of years, and you can instantly see the jump in product by Henrik. In the 2009-2010 NHL season, Henrik Sedin would go on to have his most successful season to date. Without brother Daniel Sedin playing for a chunk of the season due to an injury, Henrik continued to produce points at a high rate. Going into the Canucks final game of the regular season, Henrik was one point behind Alexander Ovechkin with 108 points. Fortunately for Henrik, he went onto getting four assists in a 7-3 win, while Ovechkin went onto recording no points in his final game. Henrik Sedin went onto to finish the season with 112 points, and became the 1st player in franchise history to win the Art Ross Trophy. Just as we thought Henrik had already accomplished so much in one year, he was later named the 2009-2010 Player of the Year by The Sporting News.
Looking back at Henrik’s journey through the NHL ranks, it is amazing the progress he has made on route to becoming one of the best passers, and players in the game today. From a baby faced rookie entering the league in 1999, Henrik has firmly asserted himself among the all-time greats in Canucks franchise history, and with many playing days ahead of him, the potential to reach even higher standards is not out of the question for this Swede.
