It seems as thou the atmosphere on Granville will continue to change as the last movie theatre on the famous strip decides to shut it’s doors next month.
Management was experiencing difficulties on the innovative side of things as most people nowadays prefer big stadium style seating and a overall more “high-tech” experience as opposed to what Granville 7 offers which is a more old-school feel. Although they understand the needs, the cost to renovate is too much for their pockets.
The closure marks the end of an era for the Granville strip, which was once home to more than a dozen screens that drew thousands of people downtown, even on weeknights!
Organizers of the Vancouver International Film Festival are disappointed by the news considering Granville 7 is the festival’s main location, which will force them to relocate next year.
