Police across the lower mainland are sending out another public warning after an alarming amount of overdoses were reported this week, resulting in 20 hospitalizations, including three deaths.
While Health Canada has yet to confirm, investigators are predicting Fentanyl is behind majority of the overdoses. Fentanyl is up to 100 times more toxic than other opioids, and a growing concern for the police, who even launched an anti-Fentanyl awareness campaign last month. The drug has been linked to at least 655 deaths in Canada since 2009.
With 2015 winding down, many Vancouverites are expected to be out and about during the holidays and New Year’s Eve. Police are warning everyone to be aware of their surroundings, and not to accept drinks that you have not seen poured.
