Organized by STAND Festival, Las Mujeronas brings together a collective of Flamenco Latinas in Vancouver to explore the impact of immigration on identity, memory, and cultural expression.
Performed in both Spanish and English, with select texts translated for accessibility, the work seamlessly fuses flamenco dance, poetry, song, and storytelling to reflect the complex and layered experiences of migration. Drawing on the intercultural roots of flamenco, especially the Ida y Vuelta (going and coming) song forms that travelled between Spain and Latin America, the piece becomes a powerful act of reclaiming voice, space, and belonging. Through rhythm, movement, and lived experience, Las Mujeronas invites audiences into a bold and intimate reimagining of home and heritage.
Tickets are currently on sale, with prices on sliding scale ranging from $18.00 to $30.00. The higher ticket cost options help sustain the festival and provide extra help to those who wish to attend, but everyone is welcome to participate in Las Mujeronas. This performance is so much more than just a dance– it’s a conversation and celebration of identity and resilience.
