Vancouver wouldn’t be the place it is today without Chinatown. Celebrating culture, community, and summer is the 23rd annual Chinatown Festival!
Sponsored by BMO and organized by the Vancouver Chinatown BIA Society, this free and family-friendly two-day festival regularly brings thousands of visitors to this historic part of the city. It’s all about diversity and community at this yearly event, and you’re invited!
CHINATOWN FESTIVAL
This signature summertime event brings together all the best parts of a festival. Some things you can expect at the Chinatown Festival are live performances, a children’s theatre, kids’ corner, as well as plenty of cultural experiences, vendors, and delicious food!
There’s a big focus on diversity at this festival, with guests being able to experience cultures from all around the world. The live performances range from K-pop and Canton pop to Brazilian Samba, as well as tap dancing and a marching band. And with international food trucks also available, you’ll be able to watch and eat from plenty of different cultures.

For the kids, they can enjoy the children’s theatre and kids’ corner. These sections have tons of fun things for the little ones, such as a meet and greet with Frozen’s Elsa and Anna, as well as magic shows. Kids can also get their faces painted, try out for fencing, and play mini games.
In the Cultural Diversity Corner, you can find the walking tour A Wok Around Chinatown by Bob Sung, and lantern–making with red packets. There will also be fan–making, a giant mahjong game set up, and traditional Chinese calligraphy and painting to learn about.
But that’s not all! There will also be a free ticket admission giveaway to the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, the Chinese Canadian Museum, and the Chinatown Storytelling Centre.
