Boston Pizza To Become Vancouver Pizza Right Before Game 1

Come next week, don’t expect to find any Boston Pizza’s in British Columbia.

For the rest of the Stanley Cup playoffs, the restaurant chain will be throwing its support behind the Vancouver Canucks by temporarily “re-branding” its 62 B.C. restaurants as “Vancouver Pizza.”

Before the Canucks take to the ice against the Bruins next Wednesday evening at Rogers Arena, Boston Pizza restaurants will slap big, red banners – with the logo’s “Boston” crossed out and replaced with a handwritten “Vancouver” and “Proud fans” written beneath – over their stores’ signs.

According to Perry Schwartz, the company’s director of communications, the Grandview Highway Boston Pizza – on the corner of Natal Street and Grandview Highway in East Vancouver – will be the first restaurant in the chain to transform into “Vancouver Pizza” on Sunday afternoon. All other restaurants across the province plan to re-brand themselves by the time the puck drops on Wednesday.

In April, the Boston Pizza chain temporarily re-named its 26 Montreal-area restaurants to “Montreal Pizza” when the Montreal Canadiens played the Boston Bruins in the first round of playoffs.
