It’s official: recreational cannabis is now legal across Canada.

It’s a huge policy change and some confusion is expected for the next while. Likewise, Canadians should be aware that the new rules are slightly different in every province.

Who can I buy cannabis?

Individuals 19 years old and over can legally purchase non-medical cannabis online from the BC Cannabis Stores (BCS) site. Furthermore, The Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) has an agreement with Canada Post to to deliver online cannabis orders to consumers.

Canada Post will check your I.D. if they believe that you’re under the age of 25. Online orders will be shipped from LDB within 48 business hours of placing the order.

How much will it cost to buy cannabis?

  • Dried flower: $6.99/gram to $13.99/gram
  • Oils (15, 20 and 30 mm bottles): $20.99 to $139.99
  • Capsules (packages of 30): $34.99
  • Pre-rolls: $4.20 to $54.99
  • Bongs (online): $54.99 and $74.99.
  • Pipes: $8.99 – $29.99

The first BC Cannabis Store location in the province is set to open in Kamloops on Wednesday. It has a large selection of flowers, pre-rolls, oils and accessories for you to choose from. Products in this store have been approved by Health Canada.

Where can I smoke cannabis?

Smoking cannabis is prohibited in cars, around children and wherever tobacco is already restricted. This includes school properties, playgrounds, sports fields and skate parks.
