To kick off this year’s Pride week, the City of New Westminster is painting the town with rainbows, literally!
A rainbow crosswalk, similar to ones in Vancouver and Victoria, was installed in the lead up to New Westminster Pride Week which runs from Aug 8th to 15th. The Pride event has seen significant growth in New Westminster which prides itself on being a diverse and inclusive community.
The permanent rainbow crosswalk in New Westminster is located in the business district at Columbia Street in front of Heritage Grill which is the “heart and centre” of the Pride festival.
The weeklong festival combines businesses and community in celebration of the LGBT and Pride and is capped off with a Street Party on Saturday Aug 15th. The free event features Bif Naked, multiple beer gardens, food truck, vendors and a children’s area.
