Weather Warnings in Metro Vancouver

Rainfall

Across Metro Vancouver, heavy rain is expected at rainfall amounts of up to 80mm. This storm comes from an atmospheric river rolling through the province, described as a “potent low pressure system” by Environment Canada.

The affected areas are the North Shore (including West Vancouver and North Vancouver), and Coquitlam and Maple Ridge. For communities at higher elevations, they will possibly see that maximum 80mm of rainfall. Communities at lower elevations are likely to see levels closer to 50mm.

The rain is expected to arrive early on Friday morning and continue through the day, eventually tapering off in the evening.

The warning notes that this is the “first storm in a series of wet and windy weather ahead.”

Wind

Parts of Metro Vancouver are also under a wind warning. This includes Surrey, Langley, Richmond, and Delta.

Strong southeasterly winds are expected this morning and through the afternoon. They will arrive ahead of the aforementioned low pressure system, developing over the southern Strait of Georgia and Haro Strait. It’s possible that communities may experience sustained winds near 70 km/h.

Local utility outages are possible. Environment Canada also advises you to secure any loose objects that may be blown away.
