If you grew up watching sports in British Columbia during the 1990s and 2000s, there’s a good chance you remember Sports Page.

The late-night television show became a familiar part of the local sports landscape, covering everything from the Vancouver Canucks to the athletes and teams making headlines in communities across the province.

Now, that same community-focused approach to sports coverage has found a new home.

Sports Page BC Returns

Sports Page BC officially launched on October 15, bringing a new province-wide digital sports media platform to British Columbia. Veteran broadcaster and original Sports Page alumnus Scott Rintoul is leading its editorial direction, helping connect the show’s legacy with a new generation of athletes, creators and sports fans.

The new website is already live, with a mission to showcase athletes, teams and sporting communities from across the province, including stories that don’t always make the headlines in traditional sports media.

Its guiding vision is simple: Every BC sport. Every BC athlete. Every BC fan.

Bringing Back the Spirit of Sports Page

For many British Columbians, the original Sports Page was more than a nightly sports highlight show. It became known for its local personalities, familiar storytelling and willingness to celebrate sports beyond the professional leagues. That spirit is central to the newly launched platform, although Sports Page BC has been built specifically for today’s digital audience.

Rather than focusing exclusively on the biggest professional teams, the website covers sports ranging from junior hockey and university athletics to high school competitions, amateur leagues and emerging athletes across the province.

The goal is to provide a place where an athlete from Prince George, a community team in Surrey or a rising star from Vancouver Island can receive attention alongside the established names in BC sports.

“One of the things that made the original Sports Page so special was that it celebrated the entire sports community. It wasn’t just about the biggest teams or the biggest headlines. Young athletes, local coaches, community builders, and hometown success stories all had a place,” said Rintoul.

“Sports Page BC is built on that same spirit. We want young athletes across British Columbia to see themselves reflected in the stories we tell and to know that their achievements matter. If we can help shine a light on the next generation while bringing communities together through sport, we’ll be accomplishing exactly what this platform was created to do.”

There’s More to BC Sports Than the Big Teams

British Columbia has no shortage of sports stories. From professional athletes competing internationally to grassroots organizations developing the next generation of talent, the province has a diverse sporting community. However, much of the attention from major sports outlets naturally gravitates toward professional franchises, including the Vancouver Canucks, BC Lions and Vancouver Whitecaps.

While those teams remain part of the conversation, Sports Page BC is expanding the spotlight to athletes and organizations that often receive less coverage. That includes junior leagues, university and college programs, high school athletics, community sports, amateur competitions and the people working behind the scenes to make those opportunities possible.

A local championship, an athlete earning a scholarship or a coach building a successful community program might not become a national headline. But for the families, teammates and communities involved, those achievements can be just as meaningful.

By bringing these stories together on one platform, Sports Page BC is creating opportunities for local accomplishments to reach audiences beyond their immediate communities.

A New Digital Home for BC Sports

Unlike the original television program, the new Sports Page BC is a digital-first publication, allowing readers to discover sports coverage from across British Columbia in one place.

The Sports Page BC website is now online, with its editorial approach centred on original reporting, athlete profiles, community stories and coverage of sporting events throughout the province. The platform is also developing relationships with contributors from different regions, with the goal of bringing more local perspectives into its coverage.

That province-wide approach is an important part of its identity. Rather than having every story originate in Vancouver, Sports Page BC wants to reflect the geographic and sporting diversity of British Columbia.

Its longer-term ambitions extend beyond traditional publishing, with plans to connect athletes, teams, leagues, sponsors, creators and fans while developing ways for British Columbians to discover and participate in sports. For now, the newly launched website provides a starting point for that vision, with its coverage and contributor network expected to expand over time.

Calling All BC Sports Storytellers

One of the more interesting aspects of Sports Page BC is its invitation for British Columbians to participate directly in building the platform.

The publication is actively seeking writers, photographers, videographers, broadcasters and aspiring journalists from across BC who want to share stories about sports in their communities. Athletes, coaches, schools, leagues and sports organizations are also encouraged to submit achievements, upcoming events and story ideas that deserve wider recognition.

The approach creates opportunities for emerging sports journalists and creators to showcase their work while helping shine a spotlight on athletes who might otherwise go unnoticed. It also recognizes that some of the best sports stories come from the people closest to them, whether that’s a longtime volunteer, a community coach or someone who has followed a local team for years.

Sports Page BC Is Officially Open

The launch marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Sports Page name in British Columbia, one that builds on its legacy while embracing the opportunities of digital publishing.

For fans who remember the original television show, the website brings back a familiar commitment to community sports storytelling. For younger athletes and sports fans, it offers another place to discover the people and teams shaping BC’s sporting future.

Sports Page BC is now live at sportspagebc.ca, where readers can explore the site, follow local sports coverage and learn more about contributing.

As the publication puts it: Because BC Sports Deserves a Page Again.
