Described as “an empowering breath of fresh air” with “performances that will make you lust, laugh, cry, and scream #landback” Virago Nation has spent the last decade creating work that explores the complex nature of Indigenous identity, while reclaiming body sovereignty and showing audiences: you can be both slutty and sacred.
And on October 16th and 17th, the award-winning Indigenous burlesque collective will take the stage to celebrate 10 years together with Stripocalypse – Rise of the Auntie Heroes.
This milestone event at the York Theatre will be both a culmination and a celebration of everything they have created together; a journey through dark and light, and an examination of rage, revenge, and rising up to stand in your power. Including brand-new burlesque acts from the entire troupe, as well as multimedia, music, and comedy, Stripocalypse – Rise of the Auntie Heroes is a showcase of movement as medicine, striptease as storytelling, and healing through sexuality.
It’s a celebration of finding your people, of becoming the hero (or Auntie Hero) you always needed, and a reminder that sometimes darkness is necessary to honour light.
