Crews will be working to replace expansion joins on the Georgia Viaduct’s deck and ramps, with work starting this month.
Georgia Viaduct Repair Work
Part of the work includes closing the vehicle exit ramp from the Georgia Viaduct to Main Street. The offramp will be closed for approximately three months, starting on October 2, 2026.
Moreover, traffic will be impacted until spring 2027. Here’s what drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists can expect:
- Drivers: Expect reduced lanes and potential delays on the Georgia Viaduct.
- Pedestrians: The Georgia Viaduct sidewalk is anticipated to be closed for an extended period during construction. Use the sidewalk on the adjacent Dunsmuir Viaduct.
- Cyclists: The bike lane on the Dunsmuir Viaduct will not be impacted.
Work hours will run from Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 5:00pm with extended hours as needed.
Below the viaduct, Pacific Boulevard will undergo short-term lane closures at times to support the repair work. Those travelling through the area are asked to follow posted signage.
The Dunsmuir Viaduct will still be open to westbound vehicle traffic, which includes pedestrians and cyclists headed in both directions.
“Although the viaducts are planned to be replaced with an at-grade street network as part of the Northeast False Creek Plan, the timeline for their removal is still uncertain,” notes the City of Vancouver. “Ongoing maintenance and repairs will be required to ensure the existing infrastructure continues to be safe and reliable.”
