The City of Surrey is once again celebrating nature with its long-running series of free environmental programs with the Environmental Extravaganza! You and your family are invited to get into the great outdoors and enjoy themed programs and events that encourage everyone to learn about Surrey’s flourishing ecosystem.
This year, the Environmental Extravaganza runs from April 22 to June 8 all across Surrey. From creeks to parks to rivers, you’ll be able to see all corners of the city’s ecosystem in action.

Experiencing Nature
Now in its 29th year, the Environmental Extravaganza is all about highlighting environmental volunteer efforts that take place all over Surrey. It also shows folks how they can also contribute in helping nature stay green and healthy.
Last year, over 1,000 participants learned how to fish and identified native plants. They also explored local parks, trails, and gardens, observed wildlife and celebrated the bees that keep our plants growing. And this year, you can do it, too!
10 Awesome Things To Try During The Environmental Extravaganza
The Environmental Extravaganza has a packed schedule, so you’ll never be short of things to do from April to June. But if you’re wondering what the highlights are, then we’ve got a list of 10 must-try things to do during the event!
- Learn to fish at Green Timbers Lake.
- Plant a tree to celebrate Earth Day or Arbor Day.
- Attend a nature-themed storytime at your local library or in a Surrey park.
- Go on an Owl Prowl.
- Remove invasive plants during Invasive Species Action Month.
- Discover the importance of pollinators like birds, bees and butterflies.
- Take part in gentle, age-friendly guided walks (WALKit).
- Observe and record local plants and animals on International Day for Biodiversity.
- Join a guided bird walk to discover fun facts about Surrey’s feathered friends.
- Stop by a community ‘Swap’ – swap clothes, craft supplies, puzzles or seeds with others!

Nature Bingo
But that’s not all for the Environmental Extravaganza. New to 2026 is Nature Bingo, which can get you all sorts of prizes if you complete your bingo card!
All you have to do is attend four or more the Environmental Extravaganza programs or events and collect a sticker at each. Once you’ve done that, submit your card online to get your prize. You’ll also be entered for the draw that can win you one of three amazing grant prizes!
The Environmental Extravaganza isn’t just an event– it’s a chance for you to become a forest steward and help keep Surrey’s ecosystem thriving. Nature is for everybody, and we all have a part to play in making sure it remains beautiful for all!
