Granville Island is bringing the heat this Canada Day, and it’s not just from the July sunshine. On Tuesday, July 1st, the island transforms into a free, all-ages celebration packed with live music, dance, art, and some very Vancouver-style surprises.
The festivities kick off bright and early with the False Creek Ferries’ annual water ballet at 8:00 AM, viewable from the dock behind the Public Market. Grab a coffee from one of the market’s shops, which open between 7:30–8:00 AM, and enjoy the show.

The main event space, Chain & Forge, hosts live bands, dance classes, and family-friendly activities from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. At 1:00 PM, head to Ron Basford Park for the official Canada Day Ceremony, featuring the national anthem and free cake, courtesy of Dockside Restaurant.
Throughout the island, you’ll find face painting, roving performers, craft stations, and more. Kids can decorate their bikes and join the Canada Day Parade at 1:30 PM, starting at Ocean Construction and ending at Ron Basford Park.
For the adventurous, the False Creek Racing Canoe Club offers free dragon boat rides, and Ocean Kayaks provides free demonstrations between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Don’t miss The Lobster Man’s cookout, serving freshly boiled lobster from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM, while supplies last.
It’s a full day of community vibes, live entertainment, and patriotic fun, all set against the scenic backdrop of Granville Island.
