A Vancouver dog owner was shocked to receive a hefty fine for doing something she’s done for years — tie her dog on its leash outside a shop while she went inside for a few minutes to make a purchase.
Jacqui Brown said the next thing she knew as she looked out from inside the store, her dog, Contessa, was being dragged into the back of a city van.
“I came out screeching and hollering, yelling, ‘My dog, my dog, what are you doing,’ and the [city employee] warned me it was illegal to have your dog tied up anywhere in public,” said Brown.
It turns out there’s a city by law that states a person has to be at one end of a dog’s leash.
