Earlier this year, the City of Vancouver granted Teus a 5-year contract to serve 43 locations across Vancouver with free public Wi-Fi as a part of its Digital Strategy program initiated in April 2013.
The roll out of free public Wi-Fi has begun with six civic centres among the first to provide the free access to users nearby.
The six new locations are:
- Champlain Heights Community Centre
- Coal Harbour Community Centre
- Fraserview Golf Course Club House
- Langara Golf Course Club House
- Mount Pleasant Community Centre
- Roundhouse Community Centre
To connect to the free Wi-Fi, users at each location will have to simply select the #VanWiFi option on their mobile device and open its browser to where they’ll see the terms and conditions page. Once accepting, users will automatically be connected and have access to the internet.
Telus will ultimately expand its free Wi-Fi service to 37 sites, with the next four at the following:
- Creekside Community Recreation Centre
- The Gathering Place
- The McCleery Golf Course Club House
- Trout Lake Community Centre
