Vancouver Island Wildlife estimates that of the 4000 cougars living in Canada around 3500 or 87.5% are populated right here in British Columbia. They usually make the news when conservation officers have to get involved, unfortunately sometimes after attacking small animals or kids.
A safe encounter was captured on video by Adam Nash in his 4Runner vehicle near Courtenay. The sighting is rare because three cougars were seen at once:
According to wildlife experts, juvenile cats are highly curious and slowly grow into their bodies and large paws.
