TELUS Partners With Local Vancouver Artist To Celebrate Lunar New Year

TELUS

Lunar New Year is a time to celebrate family, traditions, and blessings for the year ahead. One of the most cherished customs is the exchange of red packets, symbolizing good fortune and prosperity. Each year, TELUS celebrates Lunar New Year with the Asian community by creating special red packets. This year, TELUS has elevated the tradition with a one-of-a-kind red packet design created in collaboration with Vancouver artist Carolyn Wong.

Inspired by the Year of the Snake and rooted in cultural symbolism, TELUS’ red packet brings a fresh perspective to this beloved tradition while showcasing the artistry of a local talent.

A Design Full of Meaning and Tradition

The TELUS red packet draws inspiration from the Wishing Tree, a custom where wishes are written on red paper and hung on trees for luck. Carolyn Wong’s design incorporates this beautiful concept, with a wood snake coiled around a blooming tree adorned with lanterns and floral patterns.

The intricate details are brought to life with gold foil accents and TELUS’ signature colours, adding a vibrant, festive energy that embodies the spirit of Lunar New Year. What makes this red packet even more special is its innovative flap design, which allows it to double as a decorative keepsake—perfect for spreading blessings and joy throughout the season.

Spotlighting Local Talent

Carolyn Wong expresses her enthusiasm for the project: “I’m thrilled to have created a Lunar New Year packet for TELUS this year. The red packet is such an important tradition in Chinese culture, and having it available on a national scale is incredibly exciting for me.”

This partnership reflects TELUS’ ongoing commitment to supporting local talent and fostering cultural connections. Sarah Dickson, Director of Multicultural & Newcomer Marketing at TELUS, highlights the significance of this collaboration: “Carolyn’s Eastern artistic style and her fascination with nature align beautifully with TELUS’ branding. As part of TELUS’ commitment to fostering cultural connections with diverse communities, this collaboration provides a prominent platform for local artists like Carolyn to create artwork that resonates with the Asian community and showcases their talent on a broader stage.”

Nachiket Sant, Vice President of Response Advertising Inc., TELUS’ Multicultural Marketing Agency, adds: “We are incredibly proud to have collaborated with TELUS and local artist Carolyn Wong to create a red packet design that not only celebrates the rich traditions of Lunar New Year but also fosters meaningful cultural connections. By blending vibrant design, local talent, and purposeful symbolism, this Red Packet embodies the spirit of sharing blessings and joy, reinforcing TELUS’ commitment to diversity and community.”
