B.C.’s own Steve Nash, also known as, Canada’s biggest basketball star and two time NBA MVP, has been named the general manager of Canada Basketball’s senior men’s team!
The team hasn’t made an Olympic appearance since the 2000 Olympic games in Sydney, Australia. Nash helped lead that team to 7th place in Sydney back when Jay Triano was coach, now this time around it will be Nash’s turn to coach the team that he once was a part of.
The team is finally receiving a coach after former coach Leo Rautins resigned in September after a disappointing performance at the FIBA Americas Olympic qualifying tournament. Rowan Barrett will also assist Nash in coaching, as he was hired to be assistance general manager of the team.
The team will play in a last-chance qualifying tournament next month in Turkey.
