Robson Square Re-Opens To Vehicles In December

Vancouverites love Robson Square for it’s flexibility throughout the year, and as December 1 approaches this Saturday, the square will reopen to cars and buses, after concerns regarding transportation issues.

For some, including seniors in the West End, the closing of Robson Square, into a public gathering spot causes issues as several bus routes must detour and seniors miss their stops for destinations such as the library and direct access to Granville Street.

As well, the closure of the block also causes issues for several businesses. Regardless, of the 2,100 Vancouverites polled, 64% were in favour of Robson Square being a permanent public space, 19% want the street closed occasionally for special events, and 17% believe the square should be a summer-time only tradition.

No one is quite sure what the future holds for the position of Robson Square, but what is certain is that the square will re-open in Summer 2013!
