Boxing Day always brings an influx of shoppers scouring the malls in search of finding the perfect deal.
In preparation of this, TransLink has issued a warning to commuters about a potential overcrowding at the Metrotown SkyTrain station.
Considering the Metrotown Mall is such a popular spot and with the recent pedestrian walkway closure, overcrowding is expected to be at an all-time high on Boxing Day.

To help improve the flow of pedestrian traffic and eliminate crowding, TransLink recommends the following:
- Passengers who require the use of an elevator or escalator are strongly encouraged to take the accessible shuttle from Patterson Station.
- Customers travelling with strollers or large, bulky items should take the shuttle from Royal Oak or Patterson stations.
- Always follow directions from flaggers, SkyTrain staff and Transit Police, and do not jaywalk across Central Boulevard.
It is also recommended to leave yourself with extra time when commuting around the area.
To help control pedestrian traffic, Translink plans to place more staff than usual on site.
“Anticipating an influx of thousands of passengers on Boxing Day at Metrotown Station, we will have extra SkyTrain staff, Transit Police, and traffic flaggers available to alleviate crowding and assist customers in travelling to and from the station. We thank our passengers for their patience as we work to ensure the safety of the public and our staff on this busy holiday,” said Kevin Desmond, Chief Executive Officer, TransLink.
