A man and woman were caught last week ripping the claws off undersized male and female crabs, storing them in the woman’s jacket pockets and then throwing the bodies back in the water.

Andrew J Newman, owner of White Rock Sea Tours & Whale Watching posted about the incident on Facebook. It has since been making waves, with over 4,000 shares.

Newman mentions catching crabs that didn’t have pinchers or claws and always wondered why. Li Chun and Hsin Chan are facing charges under the federal Fisheries Act.

White Rock RCMP issued tickets, which include fishing without a license and for catching undersized crabs. The fines totalled $450.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada are currently looking into the issue further by conducting their own investigation.
