As part of the Chip and Shannon Wilson School of Design, each year Kwantlen Polytechnic University puts on a runway show to showcase the new and emerging talents that their grads are. This year, the university debuted their fashion student’s designs in an all ages, two show event on April 9. The show took place at the River Rock Casino at 1pm and 7pm.
The Spring/Summer collection, designed by the grads, is part of their last year class projects. The students have their entire fourth year to make their designs and prototypes in order the get them ready for the year end show.
The matinee show was sold out, with the audience excited to see the product these students have been working so hard on. The audience was buzzing with anticipation. In the audience was Chip Wilson, Lululemon founder, taking notes on each designer, as well as other fashion industry professionals.
Before the show started, each designer stood behind their portfolios and business cards to speak about the program and their designs. Every designer boasted about how much they loved the program, even with all the hard work.
The 39 students each presented 3 outfits to wow the audience with. Designs varied from maternity wear, men’s wear, children’s wear, exercise wear, women’s casual wear and women’s business wear.
The fashion show kicked off with student Alice Lam’s line ‘MINUS’ which featured minimalistic styles inspired from a trip to Australia. Ending with Negin Izad designer of Noctex, her designs filled the runway with a modern aged feel. In between you could find undergarments with an Egyptian flare from the Fox Du Nuit line, designed by Karley Scovell, a women’s line with a classic flare giving credit to previous era’s found in the Marianna line designed by Blair MacDonald to a whimsical gender neutral children’s line Neverland, designed by Michelle Leung.
