Alberta officially passed a bill in the province’s legislation on Wednesday afternoon that could shut off their oil taps to BC.

The Preserving Canada’s Economic Prosperity Act, also known as Bill 12, is “the next step in Alberta’s fight to gain better market access and to gain better value for the resources that Albertans own” said the government.

However, the bill still hasn’t received Royal Assent and therefore, isn’t enacted quite yet.

So what does this mean for people living in British Columbia?

If Alberta was to successfully shut off the taps to BC, experts predict $2/litre would be a starting point for prices in our province.

Gas Prices

On Sunday, April 29th, gas prices in the region reached as high as 1.619 per litre, setting an all time record for the continent.

Under current conditions, Alberta fuel shipments supply half of the Lower Mainland uses.

Those trips down south to fill up don’t sound so bad anymore and may in fact help you save a considerable amount on gas.
