It was a regular Sunday for one Metro Vancouver man before he received an email that would leave him stunned.
58-year-old Abbotsford man Robert R. was getting ready to walk the dog when he checked his email, only to see that he had just won a prize. “I got an email saying I won, so I went to log in on my desktop,” Robert said “I thought it was going to be a Free Play or something.”
That prize turned out to be $500,000 from playing the Lotto 6/49 Extra for the September 19, 2026 draw. “My first thought was OMG – stunned,” he said. “I was stunned all day.”
Robert shared the good news with his wife, who was similarly shocked by the windfall. Now, Robert plans to celebrate by taking a trip to Toronto to watch a Blue Jay’s game. He added that he definitely plans to travel more in the future, saying that there are a few places that he and his wife would like to visit.
Robert said that the win “set [him] up for retirement.”
Other Winners
So far, 2026 has been a big year for B.C. lottery winners.
There was even a massive $32-million win recently, won by Surrey resident Amritpal S., who decided to head to White Rock to clear his head after a busy day. There, he found out that there was a lottery win in Surrey and decided to scan his ticket. It was then that he found out he had just won the $32-million Gold Ball Jackpot from the September 19, 2026 Lotto 6/49 draw.
Another lucky Metro Vancouver resident also won $500,00 from the September 14, 2026 Daily Grand draw. Jian Z. of Richmond discovered his win after scanning his ticket using the BCLC Lotto! App. “I was at home and when I scanned the ticket [using the BCLC Lotto! Mobile App], the first thing I thought was ‘oh wow!’” said Jian.
If you’re feeling lucky, remember to know your limit, play within it before you buy a ticket.
