Vancouver is back in the Hollywood spotlight.
Aaron Sorkin’s long-awaited sequel to The Social Network, officially titled The Social Reckoning, has started filming right here in the city. Cameras are now rolling to December 9, with the movie set to hit theatres on October 9, 2026.

From Harvard Dorms to Global Scandal
The first Social Network became an instant classic when it hit theatres in 2010. It told the story of a young Mark Zuckerberg, who built Facebook from a Harvard dorm room and changed the internet forever.
Now, Sorkin is back, not just as the writer, but also as the director — with a new story that dives into what happened after the social media empire took over the world.
This time, the plot draws from The Facebook Files, an explosive Wall Street Journal investigation that exposed how Facebook prioritized profit and growth over user safety.
Who’s Who in The Social Reckoning
The film features a powerhouse cast:
-
Jeremy Allen White (The Bear) as Jeff Horwitz, the investigative reporter behind The Facebook Files
-
Mikey Madison (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Anora) as Frances Haugen, the Facebook whistleblower who leaked internal documents
-
Jeremy Strong (Succession) as Mark Zuckerberg
-
Bill Burr, Wunmi Mosaku, Billy Magnussen, Betty Gilpin, Gbenga Akinnagbe, and Anna Lambe in supporting roles
The project is produced by Peter Rice Productions and Sony Pictures, with the working title Goliath.
The Story Behind the Scandal
Inspired by real events, The Social Reckoning explores the tension between innovation and ethics inside one of the world’s most influential tech companies.
According to the investigation that inspired the film, Facebook executives, led by Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg, repeatedly ignored warnings about the platform’s harm to users. Internal reports showed Instagram’s negative impact on teen girls’ mental health, the secret “XCheck” system that protected VIPs from enforcement, and the platform’s role in spreading misinformation and violence around the world.
In other words, if The Social Network showed how Facebook was born, The Social Reckoning will show how it lost its soul.

It’s no surprise Vancouver was chosen as the filming location. The city’s mix of glass towers, tech offices, and scenic streets makes it a perfect stand-in for Silicon Valley.
Production crews have been spotted throughout downtown and the surrounding area since mid-October. Locals might even recognize a few landmarks when the movie premieres next fall.
At the same time, it’s another win for Hollywood North. Between Last of Us Season 2, Carrie, and now The Social Reckoning, Vancouver continues to attract major studio projects, proving it’s one of the top filming destinations in North America and easily number one in Canada.
The Social Reckoning Arrives Fall 2026
Aaron Sorkin’s return to the world of Facebook promises a sharp, fast-talking, and very modern look at tech, power, and accountability.
Filming continues through December, with the theatrical release slated for October 9, 2026.
If the first film defined a generation, this one might just dissect it.
