Surrey RCMP are warning the public that criminals are posing as law enforcement officials. In fact, a thief (or thieves) posing as a mountie robbed two Surrey homes this December.
On December 2nd and 19th, 2017, Surrey RCMP were called after a man claiming to be a police officer allegedly stole from his victims. In both cases a man entered the victim’s home with consent because the victims believed he was a police officer.
The suspect was able to steal both cash and credit cards from the victims before feeing the scene.

Although the suspect is described in both instances as a South Asian male, 20–40 years old, 6’0 tall, clean shaven, and wearing all black clothing, police are unsure if it is the same suspect in both instances.

In addition, RCMP advise that people check the credentials of persons claiming to be police officers if they are not wearing a full uniform.
“It is perfectly acceptable to ask someone identifying themselves as a police officer for their credentials, like a badge and photo ID card”,
says Corporal Scotty Schumann. “If you’re not satisfied with the information provided, you can contact the police of jurisdiction to confirm the officer’s attendance. Dispatchers will be able to tell you if an officer is at your door.”
