Chapters has found its new home in downtown Vancouver after announcing the closure of its flagship location on Robson earlier this year due to high rent.
Indigo Book and Music revealed it will open a small store at 816 Granville St, south of Robson this November. If the address seems familiar, it’s because it belonged to Aldo, which recently ended its lease with the unit.
The new Chapters location will be downsizing from 50,000 square-feet, to a mere 5,000 square-feet. According to a media release, Chapters on Granville will sell books, gifts, and paper, with the possibility of expanding products in the future. Their goal will focus on selling books.
Meanwhile, Sports Chek will take over the 3 level location on Robson.
Robson is currently the second priciest retail street in Canada, following closely behind Bloor Street in Toronto. Rent is as high as $300 per square foot.
