Part market, part party… Expect a taste of the Weirdos Holiday Market magic, but with a warm-weather twist!
For the past eight years, the Weirdos Holiday Market has become such a beloved annual tradition that now, organizer Rachel Zottenberg is bringing wonderfully weird energy to a whole new season. On Sunday, June 8, for the first time ever, a spring edition of the market will be held at The Birdhouse, a queer-run event space located in Vancouver’s Mount Pleasant neighbourhood.
WEIRDOS MARKET: THE SPRING WEIRDENING
The Spring Weirdening, a day-long celebration of art, joy, weirdness and community, will feature the work of more than 30 artists, all of whom have participated in past Weirdos Holiday Markets (held every December). Shop for uncommon treasures, from unusual pottery, jewellery and embroidery to darkly whimsical items including ritual candles and mounted insects, and much more.

The Birdhouse itself adds to the magic: its outdoor space is set for fun with games like giant Jenga and Connect Four, along with picnic tables and a stage. Inside, old-school video games and cozy couches create a laid-back vibe. Artists will be set up throughout the space, both indoors and out.
“All year long I’ve heard how much people miss the Weirdos once the holiday market wraps up—and honestly, same!” says Zottenberg. “So, we’re bringing the magic back for a one-time market-party: It’s sparkly, silly and full of heart. The world needs a bit more mischief, magic and joy, and no one delivers it quite like this crew does.”
Adding to the spectacle, Canada’s wildest sword swallower, Neil E. Dee, will perform, while DJ Jody Glenham sets the tone with her signature indie sound and vibe-crafting magic. Midnight Joe’s Food Truck will serve up crave-worthy eats, and Punk Rock Pastries will bring sweet rebellion with their delightful (and sometimes naughty) creations.
Admission is $2 before 2:00pm and $5 after. All ages are welcome, and is dog friendly for friendly dogs.
