“Yeah I go to Whistler U” – sounds pretty cool don’t it? What’s more relaxing then hitting the slopes after your finals too?
Whistler would be an amazing spot for University students to attend. It is a winter and summer playground for the slightly irresponsible and young at heart and a peaceful location for the elderly.
Whistler council will receive a preliminary proposal today for a seat of higher learning in a town where height is everything.
Project leader Doug Player is promising to build a $300-million private university for 1,500 students on a site known as Alpha Lands, south of Whistler Creekside and directly across the highway from the Spring Creek development.
With potential programs in tourism, sustainability and business administration, Whistler U has already drawn support from the University of Northern B.C. and the B.C. Institute of Technology, both of which can see its unique potential and likely drawing power for private international students searching for the exotic.
“For students, I think the appeal will be the location because it’s a sexy destination,” said David Tikkanen, head of the tourism marketing program at BCIT. “To have an international destination as a draw, that’s good, and that’s the primary focus for students.”
