The annual reward is given to the airport that has proven to be the “biggest standout strategically, established itself as a leader and done the most to advance the progress of the aviation industry,” states CAPA.

Despite winning numerous awards, including the top airport in North America for seven consecutive years, this is the first time any airport in North America has earned the prestigious achievement.

CAPA also distinguished YVR for its “unique governance structure with a community-based, not-for-profit airport authority that reinvests all profits back into airport operations and development.”

Passenger traffic at the airport rose by five per cent in 2015, and is expected to rise from 20.3 million to 23 million in 2016.
